Just like the Christmas Specials of Morecambe and Wise and the two Ronnies, families all over Ireland gather around their computers, basking in the warm glow of the screen and the gentle hum of it’s harddrive to listen to the Comic Cast Christmas Special. And this year we’re decking the halls with boughs of comics with reviews of The Muppet Show: Meet the Muppets by Robert Langridge, Superman: Red Son by Mark Millar/Killian Plunkett, Moronoid #1, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick/Tony Parker and Criminal by Ed Brubaker/Sean Phillips. Over the blower we chat to Gareth Lee about the first ever ISA CON 2010 Animation and Games Event at the Irish School of Animation, Ballyfermot featuring speakers from Rare Ltd. and DreamWorks Animation. Between pulling crackers we’ll be reviewing this seasons biggest movies – Where the Wild Things Are and AVATAR 3D. We’ll also be offering last minute gift ideas for the comic book / animation enthusiast in your life and if all that wasn’t enough we have a stuffed turkey of all the latest comics news from the new PSP comic reader to the bizarre new Turtles movie – Turtles Forever.

This week the Comic Cast sat down for a cup of tea with comics writer and artist Gerry Hunt. Gerry’s comics include In Dublin City, Streets of Dublin and the recently released Blood Upon the Rose – a retelling of the events of the 1916 Easter Rising published by The O’Brien Press. Here he talks about how he went from architecture to comics, working with BrenB (a frequent colourist of his comics), the importance of Irish made comics being set in Ireland and his next comic about the viking undead. Enjoy.

This week the Comic Cast meets up with Mr. Archie Templar, an independent comic artist based in Dublin. We dicuss his comics From the Pants of Archie Templar and his recently released foray into prose writing (with illustrations) From the Desk of Archie Templar: In Articulo Mortis. We also get the skinny on a plethora of Templars’ forthcoming comics, including From the Heart of Archie Templar: The Comic Book of Love, Guns, Girls and the Facts of Life and Hibernia 16/31, an alternative history set in 1931 in an Ireland where the 1916 Rising was successful. Barmy.

If there’s one place you can be guaranteed there won’t be any naked pictures of the Taoiseach it’s right here on the Comic Cast. But what we can guarantee you this week is an absolutely stellar show where we review Mark Millar’s MARVEL 1985, Rich Koslowski’s Three Fingers, Brian Michael Bendis’ Powers, Geoff Johns’ Superman: Brainiac as well as a hot from the printers review of new Irish comic Mindpuss volume 1 by Ronan Kennedy. If that wasn’t enough we also speak to Bob Byrne about his new webcomic spectacular Spazzmoid and we give our verdict on the companion film to Watchmen – Tales of the Black Freighter as well as a round-up of comics news goings on!
